Will 316L stainless steel rust steel plate

When the surface of 316L stainless steel appears brown spots, people are surprised: "316L stainless steel will not rust, rust is not 316L stainless steel, may be the 316L steel has problems." Actually, this is a one-sided misunderstanding of 316L stainless steel. 316L stainless steel will rust under certain conditions.

316L stainless steel has the ability to resist atmospheric oxidation, that is, non-rusting, but also has the ability to resist corrosion in acid-alkali salts containing medium, that is, corrosion resistance. 304 stainless steel has absolutely excellent corrosion resistance, but when it is moved to the coastal area, it rusts quickly in a sea fog containing a lot of salt, and 316L stainless steel performs well. Therefore, it is not any kind of stainless steel that can resist corrosion at any time and is not rusty.

316L stainless steel has a thin, solid, fine and stable chromium-rich oxide film (protective film) formed on its surface. The film prevents oxygen atoms from penetrating into and oxidizing and gains corrosion resistance. Once the film is constantly damaged for some reason, oxygen atoms in the air or liquid will constantly separate out and form porosity. Iron oxide and 316L stainless steel surfaces are also constantly corroded.
