ASTM A573 Grade 70 is a structural carbon steel plate used in applications requiring improved toughness. It is mainly used for tanks, storage vessels, and other equipment that require high strength and improved toughness.
Chemical Composition:
Carbon (C): 0.24% max
Manganese (Mn): 0.85-1.35%
Phosphorus (P): 0.035% max
Sulfur (S): 0.04% max
Silicon (Si): 0.15-0.40%
Mechanical Properties:
Tensile Strength: 485-620 MPa (70-90 ksi)
Yield Strength: 290 MPa (42 ksi) minimum
Elongation (in 8" or 200 mm): 17% minimum
Elongation (in 2" or 50 mm): 20% minimum
Hardness:
Typically around 150-180 HB depending on thickness and heat treatment.
Weldability: ASTM A573 Grade 70 steel exhibits good weldability and can be welded using standard methods.
Toughness: Enhanced toughness makes it suitable for low-temperature environments, such as storage tanks.
Formability: Good ductility and formability for various applications like pressure vessels, tanks, and structural components.
