According to data released by the Japan Iron and Steel Federation on January 31, Japan's steel exports fell by 4.2% to 36.52 million tons in 2018 compared with the previous year, falling for five consecutive years. Exports of steel and aluminium products to the United States dropped by 20.0% as a result of tariffs imposed by the United States on steel and aluminium products.
Japan Iron and Steel Federation said that domestic demand for steel is strong, and the decline in exports has little impact on the industry.
Data show that Japan exported 1492,000 tons of steel to the United States and 29,531,000 tons to Asia in 2018.
