Pickling: i.e. 'hot rolled pickled coils', mainly refers to hot rolled steel coils treated by the traditional hydrochloric acid pickling process. The process involves immersing hot rolled steel coils in a hydrochloric acid solution, which removes iron oxide from the surface through a chemical reaction to obtain a clean surface. The pickled product is usually flattened to adjust it to a suitable surface roughness.
It is important to note that pickled products cannot be identified directly by their grade number alone, as they share the same grade as hot rolled products. To differentiate between pickled products, it is necessary to rely on the category description in the warranty, e.g. Pickled SPHC, Pickled DD11 etc.Rolled hard: usually refers to hot rolled steel coils that have been acid washed and then rolled thinner in a cold rolling mill, but not annealed.
In some of the corresponding product description may see such as CDCM-SPCC such a logo, which represents the acid continuous rolling unit production of hard rolled coils.Cold Rolled: Rolled hardened coils fully or incompletely annealed. In the trade, common cold rolled grades include SPCC and DC01. Even partially unannealed products, such as DC01 C590 or SPCC 4B, are classified as cold rolled.
ESP: 'Cold forming' refers to hot-rolled pickled thin strip produced by the ESP (continuous casting and rolling) process. Cold formed coils, usually pickled and flattened, are marketed as a partial replacement for cold rolled structural steel. Commercial mass production of cold formed was first realised by Rizhao Steel, whose grade RECC is well known, while other manufacturers' grades from the continuous casting and rolling process, such as MCFC, are now more common. EPS: Acid-free pickling, also known as environmental pickling or mechanical pickling. This process does not use hydrochloric acid solution, but mechanical methods (such as sand blasting) to remove iron oxide on the surface of hot rolled steel coils. As the sand used should not be too fine, the surface roughness of EPS pickling plate is high, so it is not very suitable for parts with high requirements for surface quality.Below are a few FAQs on the trade and production of the corresponding steel products:
Is pickling cold rolled or hot rolled?
Pickling is the process of removing iron oxide from the surface of Hot rolled coils after they have been through a pickling unit, so it is a subsequent stage of treatment for hot rolled products, not cold rolling.Cold forming is cold or hot rolling?
Cold forming refers to hot-rolled pickled thin strip produced by the ESP continuous casting and rolling process, so it is a type of hot-rolled product and is not cold-rolled despite the word 'cold' in its name.Is hard rolling the same as cold rolling?
Hard rolled is not the same as cold rolled. Rolled hard refers to hot rolled steel coils after pickling, by the cold rolling mill thinning but not annealed products. Cold rolled is completely or incompletely annealed rolled hard coil. Therefore, hard rolling is the previous stage of cold rolling.Just like you, 70% customers choose long-term cooperation with BBN steel not only for our good product and service quality, good reputation in the international market, but also for our experienced one-stop raw material supply and further steel processing!
