A131 grade A steel and LR B steel plates are almost exclusively used in the shipbuilding industry for the construction of structural parts of ships, barges and marine equipment. The LR A steel and material LR B shipbuilding steel are certified by LR – Lloyd's Register.
Sometimes there are corrosion pits on surface of LR B steel plates. The depth is mainly concentrated in the range of 0.1-0.3mm, and the deeper pit reaches 0.5mm.
For slight LR B steel plates corrosion defects, shipyards usually use the way of repair. For serious LR grade B steel corrosion defects, shipyards usually use spot welding and post grinding to deal with them.
The cause of ASTM A131 grade B marine steel corrosion defect is that LR B steel plates are stored for a long time in the coastal atmosphere, and the grade B marine steel surface occur pitting or crevice corrosion. The presence of Cl in the iron oxide skin and the Cl deposited in the environment promote the corrosion of LR B steel plates.
