What is C55 material? steel plate

C55 is a high-carbon, medium-strength steel grade defined by the EN 10083-2 standard. It contains approximately 0.52–0.60% carbon, which gives it the ability to be hardened and tempered, enhancing both its strength and wear resistance. This material is suitable for producing mechanical parts that require durability, such as gears, axles, shafts, and other components subjected to moderate stress levels.

Key Features of C55 Steel:

Chemical Composition: Approximately 0.52–0.60% carbon, with 0.50–0.80% manganese and low amounts of silicon and phosphorus.

Hardening and Tempering: C55 can be heat treated to achieve greater hardness, making it more wear-resistant.

Applications: Common in automotive components, tools, and machinery parts where moderate strength and good wear resistance are needed.

C55 balances machinability and toughness well, but is less ductile compared to lower-carbon steels, making it suited for parts that require high durability.
