AISI 1008 low-carbon steel is mainly used in extruded, cold headed, cold upset, and cold pressed parts and forms. This material contains approximately 0.40% manganese. It has excellent weldability and formability. In the cold rolled condition, this carbon steel is used for exposed or unexposed parts where bending, moderate drawing, forming and welding may be involved. AISI 1008 steel plate may normally be welded without special precautions using any of the standard arc or resistance welding processes. It is widely used in home appliances, furniture, and automotive applications.
