A572 Gr.50 material is a kind of high-strength, low alloy (HSLA), hot rolled structural steel plate. A low alloy carbon steel plate, it has a flat, clean surface. HSLA steel A572 Gr.50 has excellent formability and weldability characteristic. It can be cut with oxy-acetylene, plasma, laser, and water jet, and with abrasive cut off saws. With conventional equipment and carbide tools techniques drilling, countersinking, counter boring, milling, tapping, and general machining can be done.
Post-weld heat treatment of A572 Gr.50 steel may degrade heat-affected zone strength and toughness. Pretesting of specific welding and post-weld heat-treating procedures is suggested to assure perfection of final property levels.
