Grade AH40 is a shipbuilding steel grade that is widely used and produced in China's steel plates. The structure in the use state is fine-grained ferrite-pearlite, which has a high resistance to atmospheric corrosion by 20% to 38%. Many steel grades are used in medium-strength steel. The strength is high, and the toughness, weldability and low temperature toughness are also good. It is widely used in the manufacture of large structures such as bridges, boilers, and ships.
After the strength level of Grade AH40 steel plate exceeds 500MPa, the ferrite and pearlite structure are difficult to meet the requirements, so low-carbon bainite steel is developed. The addition of Cr, Mo, Mn, B and other elements is conducive to obtaining bainite structure under air-cooling conditions, making it higher in strength, plasticity, and welding performance. It is mostly used in high-pressure boilers, high-pressure vessels, etc.
Heat treatment: This type of steel is generally used in hot-rolled and air-cooled conditions, and no heat treatment is required. The microstructure under use is generally ferrite + sorbite.
Performance requirements of Grade AH40 Shipbuilding steel plates:Degree: Generally its yield strength is above 300MPa.
High toughness: The elongation is required to be 15% to 20%, and the room temperature impact toughness is greater than 600kJ/m to 800kJ/m. For large welded components, higher fracture toughness is also required.
Good welding performance and cold forming performance.
Low cold brittle transition temperature.
Good corrosion resistance.
