The main difference between 304 stainless steel plate and 321 stainless steel plate is that 304 stainless steel plate does not contain Ti, 321 stainless steel plate contains Ti. Ti can prevent stainless steel sensitization, the popular saying is to improve the service life of stainless steel at high temperature. That is, in high temperature environment, 321 stainless steel plate is more suitable than 304 stainless steel plate.
Both 304 stainless steel plate and 321 stainless steel plate are austenitic stainless steels with very similar appearance and physical properties except slightly different chemical composition.
First of all, 321 stainless steel plate is required to contain trace amounts of titanium (according to ASTM A182-2008 standard, the content of titanium should not be less than five times that of carbon (C), but not less than 0.7%. Note that both carbon (C) content of 304 stainless steel plate and 321 stainless steel plate are 0.08%. 304 stainless steel plate does not contain titanium (Ti).
Secondly, nickel (Ni) content requirements vary slightly, from 8% to 11% in 304 to 9% to 12% in 321 stainless steel plate.
Thirdly, the requirements for chromium (Cr) content vary from 18% to 20% in 304 stainless steel plate to 17% to 19% in 321 stainless steel plate.
So you can use a metal analyzer or a chemical analyzer to determine the composition of 304 stainless steel plate and 321 stainless steel plate and make a judgment.
