From January to November 2018, China imported 17.554 million tons of stainless steel, an increase of 72.6% over the same period of last year, and imported 7.13 billion US dollars, an increase of 105.5% over the same period of last year. Export volume was 37.23 million tons, an increase of 2.9% over the same period of last year, and export volume was 10.19 billion US dollars, an increase of 33.6% over the same period of last year. It is estimated that the annual import volume will be 2 million tons and the export volume will be 4 million tons.
Third, the apparent consumption increased year on year. In recent years, China has intensified its efforts to make up for the shortcomings in infrastructure, and has made great efforts to promote structural adjustment, transformation and upgrading, which has greatly promoted the consumption growth of stainless steel. From January to November 2018, the apparent consumption of stainless steel in China was about 20 million tons, an increase of 10.3% over the same period last year. It is estimated that the annual apparent consumption of stainless steel will be 22 million tons.
Fourth, product structure is constantly optimized. Since this year, enterprises have accelerated the structural adjustment of stainless steel products, and the output of high-quality stainless steel has increased steadily. For example, the annual output of duplex stainless steel is expected to be 150,000 tons, an increase of 48,000 tons, an increase of 47.1%. In addition, many domestic steel enterprises are vigorously developing 400 series stainless steel products, nickel-based alloys and super austenitic stainless steel.
