ASTM Corten A steel grade is a hot rolled products of structural steels in technical delivery conditions with improved atmospheric corrosion resistance.COR-TEN A,the purity of the steel of fine grade austenitic quality and the addition of special alloys Cu, Cr, P elements and so on.
Corten A chemical composition mainly contains C (max 0.12%),Si (0.25-0.75%),Mn (0.2-0.5%),P(0.07-0.15%),S(max 0.03%),Cr(0.3-1.25%).Ni (max 0.65%),Cu(0.25-0.55%).
According to the chemical details of Corten A, is made from adding common steel to a small amount of Cu, Cr, P elements and so on, then making some special process. Thus its corrosion resistance is about 3 to 8 times higher than the common steel. Besides, Cu, Ni element makes the steel possessing the properties,such as tenacity, ductility,shaping,welding,cutting,abrasion,fatigue resistance.
Corten A enjoys special chemical composition,providing this steel excellent corrosion resistance. After adding Cu, P, Cr, Ni trace elements , steel surface will be shaped compact and strong adhesive protective membrane, which prevents diffusing and extending of rustiness,and protects matrix under the rustiness to slower corroded. Amorphous state spinel oxide exists 50um-100um thickness between rustiness and matrix, and owns good adhesion with the matrix. And the existence of compact oxide film stops oxygen and water from permeating steel matrix,slower rustiness extension, and also promotes corrosion resistance greatly.
