16Mo3 steel heat treatment steel plate

16Mo3 material is a European grade steel plate used to make boilers or pressure vessels. Heat treatment: normalizing or normalizing + tempering.

16Mo3 steel plate is different from other materials during welding, it must be preheated first, and the weld should be kept warm for about 30 minutes after welding.

Manganese in 16Mo3 steel is an important alloying element in steel and an important hardenability element. It has a great influence on the toughness of the weld metal. When the Mn content is less than 0.05%, the toughness of the weld metal is very high for the 16mo3 steel plate; when the Mn content is more than 3%, it is very brittle; when the Mn content = 0.6 to 1.8%, TEL: 180 to 377 99127% weld metal has high strength and toughness.

How does the sulfur (S) element of the 16mo3 steel affect the weldability?

Sulfur is often present in the form of iron sulfide in steel and is distributed in a network at grain boundaries, thus significantly reducing the toughness of the steel. The eutectic temperature of iron plus iron sulfide is relatively low (985 ℃). Therefore, when hot working, the starting temperature of processing is generally 1150 ~ 1200 ℃, and the eutectic of iron and iron sulfide has melted, resulting in cracking during processing This phenomenon is the so-called "thermal brittleness of sulfur". This property of sulfur causes hot cracks in the steel during welding. Therefore, the sulfur content in steel is generally strictly controlled. The main difference between ordinary carbon steel, high-quality carbon steel and advanced high-quality steel is the content of sulfur and phosphorus.
