16Mo3 steel application range and purchase suggestion steel plate

16Mo3 steel is ultra-high strength steel, with high hardness and wear resistance, good plasticity, toughness and greater weldability. However, the steel has poor tempering stability at high temperature, and high hardness can be obtained when the tempering temperature is lower than 790℃. 16Mo3 steel is a kind of high strength heat treatment steel. It is a kind of ultra high strength alloy material produced by special process. The parts made of this steel not only have high mechanical properties, good technology and welding properties, but also have good corrosion resistance.

The carbon content of 16Mo3 steel is 0.20~0.30, and the manganese content is 0.30~0.50%. The steel has the advantages of high strength, toughness, hardness and wear resistance. 16Mo3 steel has good hardenability, tempering stability and poor tempering resistance. In addition, it has excellent welding performance, stamping strength and certain cold working plasticity.

16Mo3 steel is commonly used in parts that work in low temperature environments, such as impact and cutting tools. Such as automotive parts, rack and pinion, scraper, spiral bevel gear, automatic production line, textile machinery, etc. Therefore, the steel is used to manufacture some parts with low life, high cost and high risk.

(1) 16Mo3 steel still maintains good wear resistance and corrosion resistance at low temperature. The steel can be heat treated to improve its tempering brittleness resistance, such as quenching temperature 700℃~900℃, tempering temperature 260℃~350℃.
(2) 16Mo3 steel has good mechanical and comprehensive mechanical properties, such as creep strength up to about 2000 MPa; Cold bending with high stiffness and toughness.
(3) 16Mo3 steel has excellent machining properties, cutting without heat treatment.
(4) When 16Mo3 steel is used as a corrosion resistance part, it should be heat treated to improve its corrosion resistance, such as recrystallization annealing, hot working treatment or tempering treatment in the range of 20~800℃. However, due to the high carbon content of the steel, the recrystallization temperature should not exceed 900℃.

Compared with 20Cr, 16Mo3 steel has better wear resistance and tempering brittleness, and its hardening layer is deeper (about 8 mm). But its temper brittleness is greater than 20Cr steel.
