ASTM A242 chemical composition, mechanical properties steel plate

ASTM A242 is a specification for high-strength low-alloy structural steel with improved atmospheric corrosion resistance. Here are the chemical composition and mechanical properties of ASTM A242 steel:

Chemical Composition (Percentage):

Carbon (C): 0.15

Manganese (Mn): 1.00

Phosphorus (P): 0.15

Sulfur (S): 0.05

Silicon (Si): 0.30-0.65

Copper (Cu): 0.20-0.60

Nickel (Ni): 0.25-0.50

Chromium (Cr): 0.30-0.65

Vanadium (V): 0.01-0.10

Mechanical Properties:

Tensile Strength: Minimum 485 MPa (70,300 psi)

Yield Strength: Minimum 345 MPa (50,000 psi)

Elongation in 2 inches: Minimum 21%

Elongation in 8 inches: Minimum 18%

These values are based on the standard requirements specified by ASTM A242. It's important to note that actual mechanical properties may vary depending on manufacturing processes, heat treatment, and other factors. Therefore, it's recommended to refer to the specific manufacturer's data or the relevant ASTM standard for precise and up-to-date information.
