SGC490 steel is extra high tensile structural hot dip galvanized cold rolled steel in the form of plates, sheets & strips for structural usages. SGC490 is a material grade and designation defined in JIS G3302 standard. JIS G3302 is a Japanese material standard for Galvanized steel plates, sheets, strips for structural, commercial and drawing usage.
SGC490 Steel Dimensional Characteristics : The applicable thickness for this SGC490 material as defined in the JIS G3302 starts from 1.6 mm to 3.2 mm. However the width of SGC490 material ranges to 950 to 2000 mm.
SGC490 Steel Chemical Composition : JIS G 3302 defines the chemical composition of SGC490 steels as under:
Carbon (C) is maximum 0.30 percent in the standard.
Manganese (Mn) is maximum 2 percent in the standard.
Maximum percentage of Phosphorous (P) is 0.20 percent.
Maximum percentage of Sulphur (S) is 0.050 percent.
Remaining is iron (Fe) percentage and with few negligible impurities.
SGC490 Steels Mechanical Properties : The tensile strength of the SGC490 Steels is expressed in Newton per millimeters and it must be at-least 490 N/mm2 (MPa). The yield strength is minimum 365 N/mm2 (MPa). The elongation property of SGC490 steel varies with the ranges of thickness. The minimum percentage ranges for elongation is 10 minimum.
SGC440 steel is another structural quality material with lower tensile strength than SGC490 defined in JIS G3302; this material can be compared with its mechanical properties & chemical composition by SGC490 steel. SAPH370 Steel is a hot rolled structural quality steel & can be used as a reference for comparison.
